What Types of Instruction Are Available in Distance Learning?
Distance learning has advanced considerably in recent years enabling students to be able to pick and choose a style of instruction that they prefer. The choices may not all be available at the same university, but one school may focus on a particular style, or a department may prefer a style.
This gives students a way to choose a style that they like the best – or at least think they will enjoy. Here is a brief look at the two main styles of online education instruction.
Synchronous Learning – This form of online instruction requires that a student log in to a Website at a particular time of day – when the class meets. The instructor is usually on a video conferencing line, or audio, and online students can interact with the teacher, and possibly ask questions and get them answered. This form is the next best thing to actually being in the class. All students, online and off-line complete the class at the same time. Classes may also be virtual, such as on SecondLife.
Asynchronous Learning – This style of learning gives students the utmost liberty to study at their own pace. There often is not a specific beginning or ending period of time. Most of the instruction is performed individually and communication is performed through email or phone calls.
When choosing your university to get your college degree from, you need to find out which options are available so that you get what you wanted in the way of online classes. This lets you be able to work and earn your degree as fast – or slow, as you want.
