One Disadvantage of Distance Learning

When a student takes distance learning courses, whether it be for college or high school, there is a potential disadvantage. This is not a reference to the quality of the instruction being given, but it is a matter of the student being able to develop further social skills that are a necessary part of life. For this reason, distance learning may not be the ideal situation for all students.
With so many students already sitting behind a computer for many hours each day, there is a noticeable lack in the matter of important social skills. Samantha Frehse at the UCBVU, says that teachers are necessary for some students because "They provide their students with motivation, individual attention and instruction, societal rules and regulations along with classroom rules and regulations. Teachers help keep students on track in school and in life, in a sense they may even help the students figure out who they are while they are learning in the classroom."
If you are a student who is accustomed to sitting in front of a computer all day and lack a social life, you may want to think about getting an accredited degree through distance learning. Instead, you may want to attend college for a year or two just to enhance thes skills and learn how to socialize – which will help you for the rest of your life – just as much as some of your online courses that you take through distance learning.
