More Keys to Success in Distance Learning

As you know, it takes more than simply doing the schoolwork to get the best grades. That will only get you an average grade. Excellent grades will help you be able to get good jobs, and it will also enable you to get into better graduate schools if you should decide to continue on with your education.

Start Out Right

As you enter into your studies for the semester, you want to decide to get it right and do your best. If you start out with an indifferent attitude, it will be hard to end up with the grade you want later. It also may help you to develop bad study habits that you will only have to break later.

Prioritize Your Life

All college students, not just those in an online learning situation have to make up their mind that school must take priority if they are to succeed as a student. If you have to work, or have children, then that must take priority above other things. Somewhere in there, though, students must make up their mind that study comes before watching TV, playing sports, having a social life, surfing the Internet, chatting on the phone, etc. Altogether, students will need to spend somewhere between four and 15 hours per week in study.

Learn to Communicate through Writing

Most communication between teachers and online college students will take place through writing in some form. Grades will be based mostly on written papers, so it will be necessary to learn the requirements for papers and know how to write well. You will also need to respond to online discussions, chat rooms, emails to the teacher, and more. For many career fields, learning how to write is an essential part of it.
